Music Alumna Reaches Regional Round of National Piano Competition
An alumna from the East Texas A&M University School of Music recently qualified for the Division Finals of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Southwest Division Young Artist Piano Competition.
Momoko Hoffman, a 2023 East Texas A&M graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Performance, won the state-level MTNA competition in Arizona, where she is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Arizona State University. She also holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Houston. Hoffman served as the MTNA Collegiate Chapter president as a student at Houston.
MTNA bills itself as the preeminent source for music teacher support, with a mission to advance the value of music study and music making to society and to support the professionalism of music teachers. The organization will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026.
While a student at East Texas A&M in April 2023, Hoffman won the National League of Performing Arts Young Artist Competition for piano and performed in New York's legendary Carnegie Hall.
Division winners are announced in mid-January 2026 and will move on to the national level. An overall winner will be determined at the MTNA National Conference in Chicago, scheduled from March 21-25, 2026.
