History Faculty Member Elected to Leadership Role with National Organization
Associate Professor Mylynka Cardona, Ph.D., was recently elected vice president and president-elect of the Society for the History of Discoveries.
Founded in 1960, the national organization was formed to stimulate interest in teaching, research, and publishing on the history of geographical exploration. Membership includes faculty and graduate students from a variety of academic disciplines as well as curators, archivists, librarians, non-affiliated or independent scholars, and laypersons who share their interests.
Cardona, who, in addition to her teaching duties, also serves as the coordinator of the university's Public History program, has been a faculty member at East Texas A&M since 2017. She teaches courses on cartography, historical geography, world travel and travel writing. She previously worked for the Texas General Land Office before arriving in Commerce.
Additionally, Cardona holds memberships with the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians, the National Council on Public History and the Texas Map Society.
