Governor Abbott Reappoints ETAMU Alum to Texas Commission on Jail Standards
Governor Abbott recently reappointed Patricia M. Anthony from Garland, Texas, to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. The governor appoints these members to six-year terms; her term will last until January 31, 2031. Anthony graduated from East Texas State University (now East Texas A&M University) in 1986 with a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance.
According to Today in Banking, the Commission establishes standards for the care and treatment of county prisoners, as well as the construction, maintenance and operation of county jails. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards also addresses complaints involving inmates in county jails or private correctional facilities that house county and/or out-of-state inmates.
Anthony retired from the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, after 25 years of service. She is a lifetime member of Women in Federal Law Enforcement. She serves on the Charter Review Committee for the City of Garland and the Citizens' Oral Interview and Training Advisory Board for the Garland Police Department. In addition, she holds a position on the North Central Texas Council of Governments' Criminal Justice Policy Development Committee and Leadership Garland's Alumni Association.
