ETAMU Alum Awarded PE Teacher of the Year

East Texas A&M alum Steven Nguyen was named the 2024 High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD). TAHPERD recognizes outstanding teaching and professional involvement by selecting and honoring teachers and/or professionals of the year in health, physical education, recreation and dance.
Nguyen received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from ETAMU. He is currently a teacher at North Lake Early College High School in Dallas, Texas.
“This award is dedicated to the students and faculty of North Lake ECHS. I’m grateful to be a founding teacher here and to pave the way…towards a strength and conditioning model of physical education,” Nguyen said. “My goal is for every student to know how to push, pull, brace, bend and squat and for them to pursue health, fitness and wellness for a lifetime.”
