College of Science and Engineering Students Win Big at 16th Annual Pathways Student Research Symposium

Four students from the College of Science and Engineering came home with top finishes at The Texas A&M University System's 16th Annual TAMUS Pathways Research Symposium, hosted on the campus of Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, on November 7-8, 2019.

Students presented their work in either poster or oral format, with separate divisions for undergraduate-, masters- and doctoral-level research.

In the graduate division, Madeleine Morris, M.S. Biological Sciences, finished first place in the Life Sciences: Biomedical Sciences category. For the Math & Physical Sciences: Physics category, second place went to Mathew Deutsch, M.S. Physics, and third place went to Pojun Quan, M.S. Chemistry.

In the undergraduate division, Shandi Groezinger, B.S. Physics/Mathematics, placed third in the Math & Physical Sciences: Physics category.

Dr. Brent Donham, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, noted, “We are extremely proud of these students. The 2019 award winners and past winners highlight the quality of students and faculty here in the College of Science and Engineering.”

The symposium—which is open to all Texas A&M System students—provides the opportunity for students to present and discuss their research projects with faculty, judges and other attendees. Participants also gain broader exposure to the Texas A&M System, forming lasting, collaborative relationships for future research.
