Alum Wins Prestigious Dallas Half Marathon

Alumnus Sergio Mena Marcuello was one of the top competitors at the annual BMW Dallas Marathon, taking first place in the Men's Half Marathon.

He crossed the finish line in 1:06:41 to take the victory in a field of more than 4,800 competitors. His time was 25 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. The Dallas Morning News quoted him as saying that it has been his goal to win this race for the last half-decade, after finishing second in 2019.

Mena Marcuello, a native of Cuenca, Spain, graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce (now East Texas A&M University) in 2019 with a Master of Business Administration degree. As a graduate student, he competed for the Lions Cross Country and Track and Field teams. He participated in 12 meets during his time as a Lion and compiled five top-10 finishes across several disciplines.

Since graduating, Mena Marcuello, who lives in Dallas, has continued running competitively. He won the 2024 Fort Worth Half Marathon and the 2025 Sportspectrum Firecracker 5K in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Established in 1971, the Dallas Marathon is Texas’s longest-running annual marathon. In addition to the full- and half-length races, other options for competitors include a 50K ultramarathon, relays, 10K, 5K, a 5K team challenge, the Friday Night Lights Mile, and various kids' races over a full weekend of competition.
