First-Year Leadership Class Develops Impactful Projects to Benefit Campus, Community
The First-Year Leadership Class at East Texas A&M University undertook several student projects during the previous academic year aimed at making a difference on campus and out in the local community. The class was split in half and developed two separate projects:
- One student group focused on student mental health and hosted a “Brain Break” Mental health fair for students alongside several campus departments at the Rayburn Student Center.
- The second group raised awareness for Women In Need, a local organization that assists those in domestic violence situations, and collected donations for the organization.
The First-Year Leadership Class is available to first-time incoming students who desire to be active and engaged in their communities and academics. The program strives to equip these students with the education and personal leadership skills necessary to lead throughout their higher education experience and beyond.
Enrollment in the course also comes with a $2,000 scholarship per semester. To be accepted into the course, students must have graduated in the top 30% of their high school class and provide evidence of excellence in both leadership and academics.
