Upon graduating from college in 2017, Miranda Phillips began her career as an elementary music teacher in Wylie ISD. After 5 years of working in education, she decided to stay home with her first son for about a year before transitioning to Miranda’s current role as Academic Advisor for the Honors College in 2023. She loves working in higher education and hopes to earn her Master’s in English in the near future. Outside of work, Miranda enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, reading, crafting and being outdoors.

How do you help students at East Texas A&M?

As an academic advisor at East Texas A&M, I serve as a catalyst for student growth, guiding individuals beyond course selection to help them discover their true academic and personal potential. I empower students to navigate challenges with confidence, aligning their educational journey with their passions and long-term goals. Through mentorship rooted in care and connection I help shape future leaders and change-makers.

What do you like most about your career?

While my role in education has changed from teaching elementary music to becoming an academic advisor, I find joy in building rapport with students and helping them find pathways to achieve their goals. College can be a transformative part of someone's life, and I enjoy the work that goes into my role. Working with students in the Honors College allows me to find creative solutions for high achieving students.
