A conversation with Elicia
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending East Texas A&M?
- East Texas offers over 130-degree programs including undergraduate, master's, doctoral, graduate certificates, educator certifications, and more.
- There are plenty of student organizations, social events, and involvement opportunities.
- The university also has a “Student Success Team” model where each undergraduate is assigned a team (academic advisor, financial aid advisor, academic concierge) that stays with them through the first class until graduation. That's very helpful if you want a support network.
What do you like most about your career?
What I like most about advising is the daily interactions I get to have with students and the opportunity to have a support system they can count on. It is truly rewarding to walk alongside them on their journey and to celebrate with them as they reach their ultimate goal of graduation.
How has your role changed since you began working at East Texas A&M?
When I first started working as an advisor almost three years ago, I really enjoyed supporting the freshman population and being part of their “first-time” experiences. Over time, my role has shifted to working with continuing students all the way through graduation. This transition has allowed me to see the full journey of a student's academic career, which has been both meaningful and rewarding.
