English Faculty Receives Technology Innovator Award
East Texas A&M University Director of Writing, Assistant Professor and English Program Coordinator Dr. Charles Woods was recently honored with the Technology Innovator Award by the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). The annual award is given to one recipient who leads the field of writing and research regarding excellence in teaching, rigorous scholarship and deep levels of service.
Woods has taught at East Texas A&M since 2022, and has already received multiple honors in his short time in Commerce. He is a two-time winner of both the John Lovas Award from the journal Kairos and the Michelle Kendrick Outstanding Digital Production Scholarship Award from Computers & Composition, earning both in 2022 and 2024. Woods was also awarded East Texas A&M’s Faculty Senate Award for Professional Excellence in Teaching with Technology for the 2023-2024 academic year. He holds degrees from the University of Montevallo and Illinois State University.
Woods expressed his gratitude for the nomination and selection.
“This prestigious honor is an eminent award for researching and teaching writing with technology,” Woods said. “I am quite elated but incredibly humbled to join the impressive list of innovative scholars who have won this award since its inception. I am grateful to the 81 colleagues and peers who had enough faith in me to nominate me for this award.”
The Tech Innovator honor is awarded by the CCCC’s Committee on Computers in Composition and Communication. Woods received his award at the 2025 Computers and Writing Conference held at the University of Georgia.
